Efforts Leading to the Establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Committee On Clean Cooking

In order to attain 100% clean cooking in Uganda by 2020, there is need engage the effort of government ministries and their agencies in formulating policy that will advance the clean cooking subsector in Uganda. Uganda National Alliance for Clean Cooking, (UNACC Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, (MEMD), Office of the President, (OP) and World Wide Fund for Nature – Uganda Country Office (WWF-UCO), organized the first inter-Ministerial workshop on Thursday 28th July 2016 that convened over 21 ministries, development partners, NGOs, stove and fuel Manufacturers and other stakeholders to discuss the formation of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Clean Cooking – a body that will;

·         Influence policy formulation within different ministries and agencies to influence the demand and supply of clean cooking solutions country wide

·         Look at clean cooking alternatives which can be used to  substitute ineffective cooking solutions

·         The national body at policy level  that creates  a link between policy makers and the clean cooking sub sector players in uganda

The committee, comprised of 30 members from different government ministries and Agencies is expected to kick off its activities by the end of October 2016. Among other activities to be accomplished by this committee is a written clean cooking status report which will lead to the formation of a cabinet memo, engage line ministries reflect of clean cooking issues on the 2017/2016 national and district budgets, and address issues of tax waivers and increase to access of finance and credit by both fuel and stove manufactures
